About American Translators Association

American Translators Association is a professional association founded to advance the translation and interpreting professions and foster the professional development of individual translators and interpreters. Its 9,500 members in more than 70 countries include translators, interpreters, teachers, project managers, web and software developers, language company owners, hospitals, universities, and government agencies.

About American Translators Association Certification Process

To receive certification from American Translators Association, a person has to

1. Become an American Translators Association member

2. Satisfy the Eligibility Requirements. A person must provide proof of a combination of education and work experience in order to qualify to take the examination.

3. Register and pass for an exam The certification examination is a three-hour, open-book, proctored exam in a specific language pair.

We currently have one English-Chinese translator certified by American Translators Association.  On his certificate, it reads:

American Translators Association
Founded in 1959
Having successfully completed the examination required by the Certification Committee

Alex (aka Yifan) Xia

a Member in good standing of the Association, subscribing to its Code of Professional Conduct and Business Practices, is granted

ATA Certification
for Translation from English into Chinese

Issued under the seal of the
American Translators Association
September 7, 2006

Certification requires the above certificate holder to maintain membership in the American Translators Association and to meet the Association's continuing education requirements.
