God and Man

In Genesis 1:26-27 God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

This passage is not an indication that we were made as a photocopy of God, but that we were made from His concept. The plural reference to God is indicative of the plurality of God, and the fact that he is beyond definition. He is not male, female, body, spirit, heterosexual, homosexual, or any other trait of human existence. He is omnipresent, and omnipotent. An indication of what I mean is reflected in the passage, And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you (Genesis 3:14).

Our inability to define God is reflected many times throughout the Old and New Testaments. God is often referred to in human terms, but this is only because humans can only relate to Him in human terms. The limitations of language, and our conceptual inability to define the incomprehensible, has created a lot of confusion for people over the ages; however, if we just accept that God ‘is’, and if we accept that finite minds cannot understand the infinite, then the references to God in the Holy Bible can be put into context.

When God made us, He ‘hardwired’ our brains to seek Him. This has been verified by modern scientists’ determination that humans may have a ‘God gene’. While this term has been controversial, many scientists now firmly believe that the human brain is chemically configured for spiritualism. Rather than disproving the existence of God, this discovery only proves that we are all predisposed by Him to find our way back to grace.

This then has profound meaning on those who claim to not believe in God. If one claims not to believe in vampires then this is an expression of an opinion. One based in an analysis of facts, and logic. We have no predisposition to believe in the occult. However, if one claims not to believe in God, then this is a rejection of our innate trait formed at creation. One has to overcome one’s spiritual predisposition to believe. Therefore, atheists cannot be classified as simply not believing in God; they have consciously made a decision to reject God. The correct response to a person who verbalizes his or her non-belief in God is, “Yes you do; you just won’t accept it.” Rest assured that if this same person were trapped in a life or death situation he or she would definitely call His name for deliverance.

More often than not atheists reject God because they are self centered people who believe that they alone have the power to determine what is right and what is wrong. Self interested in short-term, feel-good lifestyles rather than following the path of righteousness. With all the technology of today, and the almost daily advances in science, it is easy for people to believe that man alone controls his destiny.

Ironically, many of these people try to fill the gap left in their spiritual life by embracing mystical religions, and/or the occult. These people would rather believe that it is critical to arrange one’s furniture a certain way in their house, or read a pack of cards to determine their future, than to accept what every human on earth innately knows: God put us here. There is a distinct danger in rejecting God and embracing new age or various other beliefs: that rejection of God results in the acceptance of Satan. For Satan is behind many of the alternatives that people seek.

God made it very clear that we need to follow His laws, the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17). Every other law imposed on man has come from various religions. As Jesus often pointed out in His time, leaders of many religions often do not follow the ten basic laws of God, but seek to impose more restrictive laws upon man. As a result, many people live in constant guilt and shame. God did not say that it is a sin for anything else than what is defined in the Ten Commandments. The sad thing is that religions seek to impose their laws on man to control their brethren, increase their power base, and gather wealth.

One must ask, “Where does God come into these institutions?” He has been displaced from one to be revered as the center of all things and used as a tool in the self interest of church leaders.

While various sects argue about biblical meaning, and define their doctrines on divergent paths, the one true God, and his only son, Jesus of Nazareth, become less of the focus. This should be the binding that joins all Christian religions, but various sects separate from each other over inconsequential man-made doctrines.

In 1 Corinthians 3:16, Paul wrote while he was in jail to the Corinthians who were splitting into factions. He said, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.”
In frustration he asked, “Is Christ divided?” (1 Corinthians 1:13).

The time for a new church is at hand; one that focuses more on the Bible, the Ten Commandments, and less on sectarian interests. The wealth of the Catholic Church, for example, is obscene. Other churches are just as bad. Consider joining any church to worship and the first thing the priest or pastor will do is present you with paperwork on tithing. Is this tithing money for the poor? No, it is not. Just look at the behemoth churches in the South Eastern United States and the answer to where tithing money goes is obvious. Worse are the evangelistic television preachers and so-called healers who suck money into their own coffers from a deluded audience only wishing to reach out to God for salvation.

I feel that lay preachers in community environments, such as parks, homes, or yards, would serve God better. Jesus said that when ever two or more people gather in His name, He’ll be there. This does not take an ornate chapel, just the love and belief of true Christians. Help the poor by giving directly. Love God by praying and obeying the Ten Commandments. Honor God, believe in Jesus, and trust in His word by living your life to the fullest. God gave you life and He wants you to enjoy every day. If you have strayed seek Him out. There are several excellent books written my Lee Stroebel that I suggest you read:
The Case for a Creator
The Case for Faith
The Case for Christ
Read these and the very thing that may be keeping you from God – science – will bring you back.

Peace to you.
